This resource bundle is designed to spark whole-school book talk and help build a culture of reading for pleasure in your school.

Text-to-Talk Assemblies are half-termly sets of text-led, oracy-rich assemblies. Each focuses on a significant calendar day or week (e.g. Human Rights Day), shares a high-quality text linked to the event to encourage rich discussion and ends with a reflective takeaway.

The Reading River resource includes templates pupils can use to record all the different ways they read during a particular period (e.g. a weekend), including books, the backs of cereal boxes, road signs and all the other ways they read every day, helping them see themselves as readers. It also includes a leaflet for home with guidance on completing the activity.

My Reading Journey includes editable slides and printable templates to allow teachers to share their reading journey as a important reading mentor. There are pupil versions too, so they can share their reading with you and their peers – an easy way to inspire book-talk in the class.

Teacher Shelfies and Favourite Reads are great ways to share your reading in a fun way with your class or as a larger whole-school activity. Matching staff to their book shelf is a simple, interactive display idea to engage pupils and model a love of reading for pleasure.

It also includes bookmarks to highlight exciting new titles, peer-recommendation bookmarks for children to share what they’ve enjoyed, and a request sheet where pupils can suggest books to add to the library, plus a collection of popular book lists, all helping to build a rich, talkative reading community.
