The course will cover:
• What revision is, how it differs from editing and why this distinction is key to helping pupils improve their writing rather than simply correct it
• Building an understanding of what is a sentence and paying acute attention to sentence crafting
• Practical ways to teach sentence crafting, including variation, position, punctuation, combining, shrinking, expanding and substituting
• Considering the role of free writing and point‑of‑need teaching in helping pupils apply skills more independently and meaningfully
This session will be led by Dora Allen, School Literacy Network Manager. Drawing on her extensive expertise in English, literacy leadership, and classroom practice, Dora brings a creative and practical approach that helps leaders translate the National Curriculum and DfE guidance into meaningful classroom practice.
